Yacht Cake

Description: Cruise into your birthday with style!!!  Our all edible Yacht Cake is made of Deep Dark Chocolate Cake filled and covered with Royal Icing and Marshmallow Fondant. The details are made of Gumpaste.


  • Measures 13″ long, 6″ wide and up to 5″ high.
  • Serves 15 to 20.
  • Cake may be made of other flavors such as: Cappuccino, Vanilla, Carrot or Rum Fruit.

Client sent pictures of the actual Yacht of the birthday boy. We re-created the picture into line-art.

2 Layers of 9x13x1.5 inch cake sponges served as primary blocks for the carving of this water baby. 🙂

Guided by a paper cut-out of the intended “widest” part of the yacht, we cut off the cake until it takes shape.

Here’s the base cake for the yacht.

Preparing the primary coating of the cake, we ladle rum syrup over the sponge.

Place a thin sheet of Marshmallow Fondant on the cake.

Lay the top layer of the Yacht over the sheet. Again this layer will be ladled with rum syrup.

Started crumb-coating the yacht with Royal Icing. 

Covering the whole cake with about 1/3″ thick Marshmallow Fondant sheet.

Smoothing and defining the corners of the yacht. She’s coming along fine!

After at least 5 hours the cake is ready for the detailing.  A thin sheet of blue Gumpaste is cut and attached to the side to define the color.

Liking how it looks so far.

Railings are made of set gumpaste cut into very thin strips. Soft and light hands please.

Of course she has to have her name. Huntress is the actual name of the birthday boy’s yacht.
